Resumo: The objective of this work is to reflect on the use of some important concepts to Geography in the introduction and analysis of the social and spatial impacts of the tourist activity. It is, therefore, a work of bibliography revision: first, the revision of the literature selected on tourism; secondly, the revision of studies of cases, that in some way relate to the tourist activity and to the geographic concepts that guide this work - space, place, identity and urbanization; and finally, the revision of the actual concepts, based on the reflection of well respected authors of Geography. In this manner, this is a work of peculiar nature, as the contributions of the author concentrate in the establishment of a dialogue and confrontation between some authors, based on how they understand the meaning of the geographic concepts and the way they make use or could make use of them in Tourism literature, especially in relation to tourism and space. The reached results have allowed us to understand how the phenomenon of globalization has been influencing the reestablishment of these concepts, especially place and identity, through the growing connection that exists between global and local, world and place, promoting urban politics that modify the urbanization process and propose new forms of appropriation and consumption of space and commercialization of cities, culture and landscapes.
