Resumo: | The possible existence of a compression of the profitability of the companies due to the increase of real wages from the middle of the years 2000 and its consequent relevance in the generation of the instability of the brazilian economy since 2011 followed of a serious crisis is a crucial economic and political subject. Thus, the objective of this work is to deepen the understanding of the causes of the brazilian economic crisis by analyzing the trajectory of the average domestic sector mark-ups and their determinants between 2000 and 2013. To this end, was initially performed a review of the trajectory of the brazilian economy in this period highlighting the evolution of the obstacles and constraints that arose or deepened especially after the outbreak of the global capitalist crisis in September 2008. It was found that cyclical and conjunctural elements generated a deterioration in the conditions that sustained the economic growth between 2005 and 2010. From the appreciation of the distributive conflict in the literature, it was concluded that there is great divergence regarding its importance as cause of the crisis. The analysis of the trajectory of the average sectoral mark-ups calculated from the Product Input Matrices showed, among other results, that the sectors of the Manufacturing Industry have, in general, mark-ups considerably smaller than the others and showed a downward trajectory initiated, mostly, between 2004 and 2006 and not interrupted until 2013. It had also been found that there has been a significant increase in the technical coefficients of Services in most sectors of the Manufacturing industry indicating a possible source of cost pressure given the higher levels of the Services mark-ups in general. Considering the results found in the first two chapters, an econometric investigation was performed with panel data of the determinants of the mark-up for the Manufacturing Industry separately and for the complete set of activity sectors. The results of the estimates do not provided evidence of a significant wage influence in the compression of mark-ups; on the other hand, showed a positive and relevant impact of productivity on the mark-up and point to the intermediate consumption of non-financial services and the penetration of imports as the main variables negatively impacting mark-ups. |
