Resumo: Inguinal hernia has always been a reason for concern among surgeons since the index of recurrence of the surgery stands at around 10%. Recurrence is the reason of studies of techniques and materials that can be used in the treatment of inguinal hernia. This study uses the hernia sac as an autogenic graft in the inguinal hernia operation. Aim: To evaluate recurrence in inguinal hernia operation after utilization of the hernia sac. Methods: 383 operations of inguinal hernia have been performed in 363 patients. These patients have been followed within a period of two years. They have been reviewed after the operation: 14 days for the removal stitches, then new appointments in 30, 60 and 90 days, six mouths, one and two years. Results: 383 operations have been performed in 346 males and 17 females, aged between 13 and 89 years. Three operations displayed local seroma, one showed inguinal hematoma and three patients related parestesia at the inguinal region. Recurrences with this technique happened in seven operations within the observation period. Conclusion: The hernia sac autogenic graft is an alternative technique for inguinal hernia correction and shows low recurrence index.
