Resumo: This study aims to understand the social representations of women about violence and therelationship with quality of life. It was used as a theoretical and methodological socialrepresentations theory proposed by Moscovici and Central Nucleus Theory elaborated byJean-Claude Abric. Data were collected from two stages. In the first stage, using the techniqueof free recall, we obtained the representations opposite the inductor terms violence and qualityof life. On the second stage, a workshop was held, which deepened and complemented therepresentations found in the first stage. The sample was 100 women participating in the firststage and eight women in the second stage, all of the city of Carmésia in Minas Gerais, studysetting. The words evoked by these women were analyzed using simple frequency; structuresobtained through free evocations were processed by software Ensemble des ProgrammesPermettant I'Analyses evocations (EVOC) and analyzed using the Framework Four Houses, created by Pierre Verges, and the contents of the explanatory evocations of participants in thefirst stage and the workshop were analyzed by content analysis of Bardin. In compositionprofile of women, most were married, with children and was aged between 20 and 40 years.Violence is generated from the missing element, such as one that gives rise to violenceexpressed primarily by aggression, a form of expression of violence more visible. Otherelements that trigger the phenomenon, its consequences and the same factors that contradictthis complete representation. The representation of quality of life includes elements thatrequire subjectivity and objectivity as well as, for example, love, peace, labor and education, with the majority of these elements is also a way to provide protection against violence to theextent that they constitute on elements that supply shortages and a lack that give rise toviolence. The workshop provided deepen the results found in the first stage of the study. It isunderstood that a relationship exists between the representation of violence and quality of life, because the elements of quality of life aim to address the shortcomings that give rise toviolence. Thus, it is important to discuss ways to reflect on the phenomenon of violence andits relationship to quality of life, because such reflection also represents a strategy for copingwith violence.
