Resumo: The conception of ekphrasis - the verbal representation of a text or texts in non-verbal sign systems - have been used to define the relations between literature and other media (painting, sculptures, poetry, novels, films, video-installations, among others), as in the cultural products inspired by the life and oeuvre of the Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-1652). However, the relation between literature and architecture has not been thoroughly scrutinized within the ekphrasis field yet. Therefore, the aim of this doctoral dissertation is the inclusion of the study of relations between literature and architecture, by means of ekphrasis, within the studies of Intermediality. By departing from the ancient concept of ekphrasis and reviewing its latest definitions, an interpretative model for studying the typology 'architectural ekphrasis' will be proposed. This model will be applied in 'Künstlerromane' inspired by the American designer Clara Driscoll (1861/1944) and the Brazilian self-educated architect Lota Macedo Soares (1910/1967). The investigated cultural products blend fiction into reality and deal not only with the life, but mainly with their creative process and how the process affect the personal life of each biographed women
