Resumo: | The process of reconstruction and modernization of Rome promoted by the Roman Catholic Church during the 15th century is the background against which we conduct an investigation into how the spatial configuration determined by the road circulation systems interact with urban functions. Using historical cartography and configurational analysis supported by the theory of Space Syntax, the present research explores the limits of its application in the historiographical scope. It involves prospecting and digital modeling of historic plans of Rome, with the objective of generating Segment Maps, processed by suitable software that allows the identification of configurational patterns of movement. Added to the essentially mathematical-topological and descriptive character of the configurational analysis is the historical analysis of aspects related to urban planning and viability in Renaissance Rome, enriched with the topography of urban functions, such as markets, pontifical and cardinal residences, and assistance buildings. It investigates the contribution of the encounter and the movement in the city to the formation of a Renaissance arché and the modernization of the urban structures of Rome through the Quattrocento. |
