Resumo: | The development of the metal-working industry is closely related to its ability to efficiently utilize ceramic materials. An important field of application of these materials is the goods industry, where aluminum oxide based ceramics are widely used in the manufacture of wheels grinding of steels. The aim of this study is to evaluate the behavior of different types of aluminum oxide based wheels cylindrical grinding of AISI 1045 steel quenched and to an average hardness 30 HRC (hardness Rockwell). The grinding wheels tested presented different characteristics in terms of abrasive grain (conventional or seeded gel aluminium oxide), particle size, hardness and structure. During the tests the influence of the type of grinding wheel and conditions of operation on the electric current consumed by the main spindle, acoustic emission signal and ground component quality (surface roughness and diametral deviation and run-out) was investigated. The results showed that the seeded gel aluminum oxide grinding wheel showed superior performance in terms of consumed electric current, roughness and diametral deviation. On the other hand, the conventional Al2O3grinding wheel provided lower run-out in the ground component. The acoustic emission signal was affected by wheel speed and wheel type. |
