This work presents transcriptions and editions, for the viola, of five pieces within the 26 Prelúdios característicos e concertantes para violino só, by Flausino Vale (1894-1954). The characteristics of the viola and its technical specificities guide through the process of the transcriptions referred above and the interpretive choices that grounds it. Starting out from research about the musical language of the preludes, from studies about the viola idiomaticism, and from technical interpretive analysis, we chose criteria to substantiate the transcriptions, as: character of the pieces, tonalities, registers, resonance of the instrument to which the transcription is dedicated, and viability of instrumental realization. Besides the transcriptions of the pieces, auxillary studies were prepared. In this thesis, there are illustrated musical materials from the p­reludes and from its musical genres, as well as passages from works related here, important to explain the paths that led to the presented transcriptions.
