Avaliação sanitária de Psittaciformes em cativeiro no estado de Minas Gerais, no período de 2010-2012

Resumo: | Parrots of genera Amazona and Ara, held in captivity in Minas Gerais, including two endangered species (Amazona rhodocorytha and Amazona vinacea) and the common species Amazona aestiva and Ara ararauna, were studied. The etiologies of diseases investigated were recommended by the National Poultry Health Program (PNSA), and the etiologies of other major diseases, such as Chlamydophila psittaci, psittacine beak and feather disease virus (BFDV), ecto endoparasitoses, and the proventricular dilatation disease (PDD) (avian Bornavirus, ABV) were investigated. Based on plate agglutination test (PAT), 11.6% (25/216) of birds were positive for Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and 17.1% (37/216) were positive for Salmonella Pullorum (SP) / S. Gallinarum (SG), although all shown negative by slow agglutination test (SAT) for SP / SG and negative by hemagglutination inhibition (HI) for MG and Mycoplasma synoviae. No antibody titers were found for Newcastle disease virus by IH. In fecal examinations by flotation and direct microscopy on wet preparation (saline), endoparasitism was detected in 2.8% (6/216). Ascaris sp. was detected in one A. vinacea, eggs of Trichuridae nematode, probably Capillaria sp., were found in two Ara ararauna. Non-sporulated oocysts of coccidia were found in three parrots (A. aestiva). For C. psittaci 11 (5.1%) samples were tested positive (11/216) in pools of cloacal and palate cleft swabs by PCR, including eight (3.7%) A. aestiva, one (0.46%) A. rhodocorytha, one (0.46%) A. vinacea, and one (0.46%) Ara ararauna. Considering BFDV, 63 blood samples from birds with feather loss were tested by PCR, resulting in one A. aestiva and one Ara ararauna positive for BFDV DNA (3.17%). PDD was evaluated in 17 parrots with typical lesions, by histopathology, immunohistochemistry (IHC) for ABV antigens and RT-PCR for ABV RNA,revealing two positive by IHC and four positive by RT-PCR, being for the first time confirmed in Brazil . |
