The objective of the present dissertation is the comparative analysis of two literary movements in the scope of the poetry from the city: the German expressionism and the Brazilian modernism. The big city has been chosen as an object of study because it is considered the typical social organization from the twentieth century. The intention is tocomprehend the modern concepts of subject and time and their relationship with the analyzed vanguards. The works of Georg Simmel and Walter Benjamin about the experience in the urban modernity has been taken as theoretical basis in order to search the similaritiesbetween the literary movements, in other words, their elective affinities
