Resumo: | The main objective of this research is to analyze the process of urban expansion in Montes Claros, with regard to the dynamics of contemporary urbanization. The specific objectives pervade the understanding of the production of urban space from the phenomenon of contemporary urbanization, placing Montes Claros as an object of analysis, the examination of this process in the city under study in the face of the new perspective of urban expansion, and prospecting of the urbanization process of the new area of urban expansion based on the challenges of the current urban planning in Montes Claros. The research was developed from the qualitative and exploratory methodology and in the operationalization of this work; we used theoretical analysis, documentary research and field research with iconographic records. With that, the results were analyzed and presented in maps and figures highlighting characteristics of land use and occupation in each region from the North, South, East and West Vectors. Based on the discussions and data presented, it was found that the increase in the urban expansion zone, when carried out in a disorderly manner, can favor the occupation of environmentally unsuitable areas and cause urban and social problems from the occupation and illegal sale of land. In this context, this research points to the need to reflect on the consequences and challenges of the urbanization process with regard to urban expansion and the repercussions caused in the fields of environmental, urbanistic and social interaction. |
