Resumo: It was proposed in this research to apprehend the librarian's vision about the perspectives and challenges present in the exercise of the educational practice, with a view to the institution of the libraries systems and networks. This work is of the qualitative-quantitative type and had as a space to approach the library systems and networks in the context of the thirty-eight Federal Institutes. Data collection was through documentary research and the application of semi-structured interviews and questionnaires with librarians. Through documentary research it was possible to identify that there are 14 systems and four networks of libraries formally instituted. Another 20 Institutes do not have their organized and structured libraries, which evidences the need for integration and cooperation for the strengthening of these libraries in the institutional context. Through the questionnaires and semi-structured interviews it was possible to identify that the greatest challenge of libraries is the insufficient number of personnel, mainly librarians, which causes damage to the development of library activities, especially the educational action, since librarians have to prioritize routine technical activities such as cataloging and circulation of materials, as these activities impact on the functioning of the sector. It was also possible to find out that libraries are not prepared to meet the specific demands of diversity, since the subjects of distance education and people with disabilities are not effectively covered by the offered services due to structural, material and organizational constraints. However, according to the participants of the interview, librarians' efforts to insert libraries into the educational processes at each campus have strengthened their identity and role in the school context, minimizing the deficiencies and making it possible to overcome the challenges present in the daily routine of integration of the library into the school context. In view of the above, it was evident the need for more investments in the infrastructure of libraries, as well as in the pedagogical training of the librarian, so that the librarian can perform satisfactorily his educational role in an institution marked by diversity and characteristically has school and university demands.
