Resumo: | This research sought to identify inequalities in access to opportunities for young residents of Belo Horizonte due to the different contexts in which they are inserted. Using mobility as a research tool, we aimed to find out how questions related to the characteristics of the place of residence, gender, family arrangements and income influence individuals in their ability to reach desirable places and activities. The methodology used allowed us to investigate and compare mobility practices and access conditions to activities in different scenarios based on data from the 2012 Origin and Destination Survey and the Urban Life Quality Index (IQVU) of the same year. Together, the two databases offer information about the young people, their mobility practices and the properties of the place where they live, such as the offer of urban quality of life, the income profile and the distance to the city center. A vast amount of material that made it possible to seek associations between the urban context, income, gender, family characteristics and urban accessibility conditions in Belo Horizonte. Data analysis indicated that the quality of urban infrastructure in the place of residence tends to be associated with the levels of family income of young people, both of which being significant factors for defining mobility practices and, consequently, urban accessibility. In addition, important inequalities were also pointed out in the possibilities of access due to gender and the family arrangements in which young people are inserted. |
