Resumo: | Introduction: The role of the scientific introductory scholarship on the Brazilian science is not fully investigated, mainly at the health area. The identification of the influence of this scholarship during the undergraduated courses on the further profissional and on scientific life of the students will contribute to the optimal utilization of funds and better outcome of results. Objective: This study aims to determine the association of the introductory scholarship to scientific production inthe medical course at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte, between 1994 and 1999. Subjects and Methods: All graduated students from the course of Medicine with Lattes curriculum were allocated in a basic data. The various data were catched up from the Lattes Plataforma at CNPq site such postgraduation as age, gender, scientific production classified under Qualis System, postgraduation and research group. Results: Among the 1931 students, 132 Lattes curricula were detected, from which 52 were from students who had scientific introductory scholarship and 80 from students who had none. It wasgiven 437 scholarships to 321 students, with a percentual of 16,6% from the total of graduated in the analysed period. From the total of 1931 students, 1090 (56,5%) were male and 841( 43,5%) were female. Between the females 19,1% had scientific introductory scholaship and 14,7% males did have it. The mean of articles complete texts and abstracts classified as International and National Qualis A, B and C produced by undergratuated/alumni with scholarship were not different from that one produced by undergraduated/alumni without it. The meannumber of articles not classified by Qualis was not different between the two groups. The production of books were not comparable and that of books chapters was significantly greater in the group of no scientific introductory scholarship undergraduated/alumni. There was a negative association between the group of scholarship undergraduated/alumni and bookschapter. Conclusions: There was a significant positive association between the scientific introductory scholarship and Lattes curriculum. There were significant gender association betweenscientific introductory scholarship and the female students, although men were predominant at the medical undergraduation course. There was no significant difference at the means comparation between the scientific production indexed as International and National Qualis from the two analysed groups. The production of books chapter was statistically different in favor to undergraduates/alumni who had no scientific introductory scholarship. |
