Resumo: In order to investigate the effect of different energy sources in the transition period on milk production and milk composition and the economic viability of this supplementation, 40 primiparous cows were used and randomly assigned to four treatments, control, Megalac-E ®,roasted soybean and propyleneglycol. The supplementation was 28 days before and 21 days after calving and monitoring of milk production and composition until 40 days postpartum. There was no milk production increase with the Megalac-E ®, roasted soybean and propyleneglycol treatment compared to control treatment, 24,72 kg, 21,65 kg, 24,42 kg e23,36 kg, respectively (P>0,05). The group supplemented with Megalac-E ® and propylene produced more milk than the group receiving roasted soybean. There were no changes in milk composition between treatments, as the fat and protein, but the group treated with propyleneglycol showed a higher content in milk of lactose . The gross margin was used as an indicator of economic viability from simulation with different scenarios of market milk. There was not economic viability of energy supplementation with Megalac-E ®, roasted soybean andpropyleneglycol in the transition period considering three different scenarios of market milk, as a factor analysis just the milk production.
