Resumo: | The choice of materials that minimize environmental impact is one of the strategies that contribute to increasing the sustainability of the construction sector. The present work applied the methodology of Life Cycle Assessment to evaluate the environmental impact resulting from the manufacture and use of galvanized steel roof in a specific project, taking as reference the NBR ISO 14000 series standards. Input and output data related to the process of manufacturing and processing of the steel, to the work stage, to the use and maintenance of the steel tile up to the end of its useful life, including its final disposal, using as a case study the assembly from the roof of a church in the city of Ouro Branco-MG. For the production stage of the steel coil, information was available on the environmental reports of steel mills, referring to the main inputs, as well as databases in Simapro software. The results indicated a greater share of the environmental load for the production stage of the steel coil, with the highest impact found belonging to the categories "inorganic inhalants" and "fossil fuels". The results also indicated a greater impact caused by transport when compared to that caused by the use of electrical energy for the assembly and end of life phases of the steel tile. In the analyzes involving the stages of manufacture and final destination of the materials, it was clear the importance of reuse and recycling as a way to compensate the impact produced in all categories. The ACV proved to be an efficient tool to evaluate the damage caused to the environment by the manufacture and use of the galvanized steel roof and allowed the evaluation of the respective environmental impact involved throughout the life cycle |
