Resumo: | This master thesis studies the elastic properties of carbon nanotubes atop vicinal crystalline quartz substrates, also known as carbon serpentines, with the aid of Raman spectroscopy. Firstly, some theoretical background is given. Secondly, relevant literature related to this work is discussed. After this introduction, Raman spectroscopic profiles from carbon serpentines, nanomanipulated with the aid of an atomic force microscopy (AFM) apparatus, are presented. In an attempt to explain those, a dynamical equation for the deformation field of a one-dimensional system, immersed in two dimensions, is introduced. Together with it comes an ad hoc term to account for static friction, in order to yield stationary states different from equilibrium. The results of such an elastodynamics are shown to be qualitatively similar to the experimental ones, the latter being, therefore, interpreted as elastostatical profiles of carbon nanotubes adhered to vicinal crystalline quartz. The theoretical approach is explored further. |
