Resumo: The sintering process has a great importance in the Blast Furnace production route. It is responsible for the production of about 60% of the metallic charge of this reactor. The chemical and granulometric quality offered by the iron ore mine in the world has been decreasing, due to a natural condition of the mine, forcing steelmakers to reduce productivity and/or adapt the process or quality of the final product to the new one. In order to evaluate the differences between two products focusing on the outcome offered in terms of process "gain", the differentiation becomes extremely important in the business world and occurs inevitably and intentionally at all times, even for those products and services with less differentiation. The present work introduce a mathematical tool for the economic analysis of the value in use of the metallic charge in iron ore sintering process for commercial and technical support in the final price negotiations for iron ore. This tool allows comparative analysis of the chemical and granulometric quality impact of the iron ore fines in the final cost of production, highlighting the main variable cost items. The tool is based on a hybrid characteristic model comprising a mass balance coupled to a thermal balance in addition to mathematical relationships to explain the impact of grain size on the final energy consumption. The value-in-use methodology can be used by both the steelmakers in the iron ore acquisition, and the mining enabling the specific points appreciation of the product quality in the customer's production process, as a recognizer way through premium or price differentiation during the negotiations, stimulating the supply of a sinter feed specification which can provide a superior performance in the customer process with real gains in terms of productivity and / or cost reduction
