Resumo: | This work, in the Preservation of Cultural Heritage research area, proposes the study of the contemporary Brazilian tiles (azulejaria) heritage by analyzing the inventory of a selection of works withdrawn from the book Azulejaria Contemporânea no Brasil, Frederico Morais (1988; 1990). The author constructed a journey about the the collection of contemporary brazilian azulejos from the neocolonial style Wasth Rodrigues in 1922, at Caminho do Mar in Sao Paulo, through the renewal of artistic proposals of Athos Bulcão and ending on the welcome panel created by Floriano Teixeira for Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado in Salvador. Initially it addressed the development of this type of cultural heritage analyzing the expected inheritage between Portugal and Brazil, and its renewal in the first few decades of the twentieth century when, in the name of the renew of the traditional values, it was started to be produced in Brazil by brazilians. This work is theoretically based in the work on the inventory of azulejos in situ, Az Infinitum - Sistema de Referência e Indexação de Azulejo - developed by Az Rede de Investigação em Azulejos. Using this work, eighty one ceramic coated tiles had been documented, which are placed at sixty one different locations in thirteen cities: Belo Horizonte, Cataguases, Juiz de Fora, Ouro Preto, Rio de Janeiro, Seropédica, São Paulo, Curitiba, Brasilia, Recife, Joao Pessoa, Salvador and Feira de Santana. Information was collected to update information on location, iconography, standards, authorship, reallocation, episodes of destruction or dismantling, on the available safeguard tools, and on the overall condition after twenty five years of the Frederico Morais (1988; 1990) publication and its transmission as a cultural legacy for future generations. This work results has highlighted the current situation of the tile heritage, under many points of views: legislation, conservation and cultural significance. For a short-term proposal of a future work, the collected information will be systematized and integrated into the database kept by the Az Infinitum platform (http://redeazulejo.fl.ul.pt/default.aspx), in order to make them accessible to society and contribute to its dissemination, knowledge and protection. |
