The purpose of the present research is to study Étienne de Condillac's theoretical concepts, in general, and his Traité des Sensations, in particular. In this process I will be also making reference to some other texts by the same author, once they somehow contribute to a broaderunderstanding of his philosophical standing. I am specially interested in the analytical comprehension of the cognitive development of the epistemological metaphor (the statue-like man ) taking into consideration that sensations work as agents that make his subjectivity complex, as this being (the statue-like man ) becomes receptive to the diversity of perceptive stimuli. Taking as a starting point of this investigation Diderot's criticism of the results of Condillac's first work ( Essai sur L'Origines des Connaissences Humaines - 1746 ), due to the idealistic nature of his thought, I will try to show the existence, in Condillac's text, of possible reconciliation to the external reality of the objective world, to the detriment of the subjectivism of sensations, considered isolatedly. Finally, based on this same study, I will make an effort to place Condillac's philosophy within the framework of 18"^ century French thoughts and doctrines.
