Resumo: The main purpose of this essay was to study how was the roadway modernization process of Minas Gerais and its main conditions, namely, how were allocated the public resources, the road network and vehicle quantitative growths, considering the national and regional economy development context. Thus seeks to analyze the road infrastructure expansion, considering the economical, technical and political matrixes that guided the modernization, as well as the concession, finance and construction dynamics. What regards to the road network growth, as well as happened to the railways, prevailed the appropriation of public resources during the whole modernization process, characterized by casuistic additives on the agreements and biddings, which got a fraudulent feature. Therefore, the road network expansion of Minas Gerais was an important condition to the peripheral insertion on the regional division of labor, since Minas Gerais was crossed by important national roadways and was benefited marginally of this transport infrastructure, by only guaranteeing the access of Minas Gerais cities to that National road network.
