Resumo: In the present work two chapters are presented, one with the synopsis of the tribe Astereae in Brazil, and other with the taxonomic treatment for the tribe Senecioneae in Minas Gerais state. The synopsis of the tribe Astereae recognize 208 species and 16 genera to the tribe Astereae (Asteraceae) in Brasil. It is presented a key and descriptions of the genera with species occurring in Brazil. For each genus is presented taxonomic commentaries, list of the species and synonymy, besides information about the distribution in the Brazilian regions and states. The richest genus was Baccharis (147 spp.), followed by Conyza (13 spp.), Noticastrum (10 spp.) and Podocoma (7 spp.). Lectotypifications to Baccharis curitybensis, Podocoma bellidifolia, Podocoma blanchetiana, Podocoma regnellii and Podopappus hirsutos are proposed, as well as six new synonymies: Baccharis hyemalis under Baccharis aliena, Erigeron lorentzii under Conyza lorentzii, Erigeron macrophyllus under Conyza macrophylla, Hysterionica nebularis under Hysterionica pinnatisecta, Inulopsis phoenix under Inulopsis camporum, and Podocoma regnellii under Podocoma hirsuta. In the treatment of Senecioneae occurring in Minas Gerais are recognized eight genera and 40 species (Dendrophorbium 3 spp., Emilia 2 spp., Erechtites 3 spp., Graphistylis 5 spp., Hoehnephytum 1 sp., Pentacalia 1 sp., Pseudogynoxys 1 sp. and Senecio 26 spp.). Three species are cultivated as ornamental (Curio 1 sp. and Senecio 2 spp.). One Graphistylis and two Senecio are described as new species. Six species are new occurrences for Minas Gerais (Dendrophorbium fastigiaticephalum (Cabrera) C.Jeffrey, Graphistylis argyrotricha (Dusén) B.Nord., Senecio hemmendorffii Malme, Senecio paulensis Bong. and Senecio pseudostigophlebius Cabrera). A brief historical overview of Senecioneae in Brazil is presented, key for identification of genera and species found in Minas Gerais, descriptions of the genera and species, comments on the taxonomy, geographical distribution and habitat, besides maps of distribution of the species in Minas Gerais and illustrations are given.
