Resumo: The focus of this study was to analyze the influence of a program of Transit Education in the perception of teens about road safety using the technique of discourse analysis. The instrument for data collection was used two questionnaires with closed questions and one in which respondents wrote a narrative text on the subject: Dangerous experience in traffic. The enclosed questionnaire aimed to raise the profile of the student and their mode of transportation from home to school and school to home: age, sex, address, mode of transport used, if the student is accompanied or not, and its relationship with arrangements to ensure the safety of users of the transit system. With this information has been assembled a database generated in TransCAD software and thematic maps that allowed us to visualize and understand quickly and efficiently some variables, such as the origin of the students, the means of transport among others. Have the open questionnaire in which students wrote an wording oriented, aimed to identify the main information that students have about the city traffic with focus on safety. One pilot study with 106 students, the final grades of elementary school was held in a public school in Belo Horizonte to test the efficacy and clarity of the questionnaires. Through this test could detect the efficiency of tools designed to raise awareness that teens have on road safety. Data collection for the final survey was done with students in upper grades of elementary school two public schools located in neighborhoods Copacabana and Santa Monica Area New sale in Belo Horizonte - MG. The questionnaires were administered in 92 students in the eighth and ninth grade of elementary school, participating in a traffic education program and a control group consisting of 104 students, also the eighth and ninth grade who did not participate in any program traffic education. The texts produced by the students were analyzed methodologically following five stages , namely: i ) reading or pre -analysis , ii ) exploration of the material , iii ) categorization , iv ) statistical treatment , e v ) interpretation. The analyzes showed that the adolescents interviewed in the two groups , are able to identify the devices that ensure your safety , know the traffic rules and recognize the main elements that make up the transit system.
