Resumo: Among the important resources for economic and social life of a country the Transport System has high priority. This has undergone great impact, given the effects of urbanization and the increasing volume in the number vehicles. Because of this, research must be conducted to minimize the effects of congestion, which occurs by stimulated for various reasons, including the design of roads, number of vehicles greater than the capacity supported, repairs and accidents. The objective of this work is the construction of an urban traffic simulator containing the main features such as multiple routes, different types of vehicles such as cars, trucks and buses, intersections, bus stops, and jams. In order to achieve this goal were used the technology of Cellular Automata - CAs. CAs are simple structures with many similar units called cells, and local update rules. The model CAUTS - Cellular Automata for Urban Traffic Simulation - proposed, provided appropriate and valid results within theory of traffic flow. The experiments were performed in scenarios with the freeway or in the presence of retentions.
