Resumo: | This work is about the relation between the five sonatas for violin and piano by Cláudio Santoro and his aesthetic periods, emphasizing the violin part. The chosen method was to focus on the aesthetic periods of the composer, on the technical-violinistic materials, and on the analyses of the formal aspects of each movement of each sonata. The sonatas were composed in the dodecaphonic and nationalism periods (1940-1960). The meaningful similarity between the sonatas is neoclassicism, evinced in the use of the classical sonata form, combined with the new serial and nationalist elements. Concerning the idiomatic choices, the sonatas can be divided into two groups: atonal (Sonatas nº 1, 2 e 3) and tonal (Sonatas nº 4 e 5). This research has clearly and systematically shown how the five sonatas fit into the aesthetic periods of the composer: Sonata nº 1 (1940) and Sonata nº 2 (1941) belongs to the dodecaphonic period (1940-1942); Sonata nº 3 (1947-1948) belong to the transition period (1943-1949); Sonata nº 4 (1950) and Sonata nº 5 (1957) belong to the nationalism period (1950-1960). |
