Resumo: This research aimed to analyze the sources, processes and information systems used in a criminal investigation in Mozambique. In this sequence, the target audience were the instructors of criminal proceedings in the direction of Criminal Investigation in Nampula province, northern Mozambique. The instructors of criminal proceedings has the function of investigation of criminal cases collecting all the evidence across different information systems at your fingertips. The complexity and speed of the occurrence of crimes and the prompt response required for research to meet the victims and accountability of perpetrators for damages justify the need for this study and on the best ways to do it. The document analysis was used to contextualize the Mozambican public safety, through legal devices and other materials used in the criminal investigation which constitutes the qualitative method. The quantitative method was used to analyze data obtained from an exploration and cross-sectional survey. The questionnaire included questions related to the use of information sources, types of information sources and your query, access and use of information technology as well as access and use of the civil identification database. The survey was applied to 40 criminal investigation police that constitute the universe of Criminal Investigation Directorate of Nampula and the questionnaire was administered in the period between December 2013 and January 2014. The study found that are used manual systems of information, although there is qualified staff to use advanced means of information sources. They are not using IT to enhance criminal research. Proposes that the process of creating databases can be dynamic, not only endorsing civil identification in general, in this first phase, but also the creation of databases of criminals and other participants in criminal acts. In addition to creating databases, which are also found sharing strategies of the information contained in the databases so that the criminal investigation be prompt with no compromising results properly using information sources that in turn will condition the appropriate systems information.
