Resumo: | Digital libraries constitute one of the most advanced and complex types of information system. Due to this complexity, the construction of such a system normally demands a software project with an intense development cycle. Digital library componentization is an approach that allows decreasing this cycle's time, through concepts like modularity and reusability. In this work, we present the WS-ODL framework, based on a pool of components, web services and open archives, for building digital libraries. Such framework operates on the top of the Fedora architecture, which works like a complex digital objects repository and an infrastructure services provider. Amongst the contributions of our work, we distinguish the development of components with complex functions, like search integratind structured and textual data, and an experimental evaluation with real users. We provide an extensive evaluation of the framework with some collections e show that it is feasible and presents superior performance than ODL - Open Digital Libraries, the starting point of our work. |
