Resumo: | Objective: Popularly patients have credited improvement of constipation in products that contain probiotics. Researchers have been made in adults and children. Until now, there is uncertainty regarding the use of probiotics for the treatment of constipation, mainly in children. The aim of this article is to evaluate and update evidence on the efficacy of the use of probiotics in children with functional constipation. Data Sources: A non systematic review of the international medical literature was carried out through the sites Medline. The used descriptors were as follows: constipation, probiotics, gastrointestinal disorders, child e randomised controlled trial. Data synthesis: Until now, there are few studies of probiotics in constipation mainly in children. Even if studies in adults are included, the number of participants is low and there are methodological problems in some of those researchers. Conclusions: There is not sufficient evidence to support the effectiveness of probiotics in constipation mainly in children. However, the results encourage new randomised controlled trials. |
