Resumo: This study investigated, in a historical perspective, the tender for provision of Chair of physical education in State schools, Mining occurring between 1960 and 1974, in the city of Belo Horizonte. These contests were organized by the Ministry of Education of the State of Minas Gerais (SEE-MG) and the school of physical education of Minas Gerais (EEF-MG), so responsible for your selection process, which involved the drafting, implementation and correction of all your steps. The contests were composed of five stages: registration, proof theoretical, practical test, trial of titles and publication of results. Interested in understanding the importance of EEF-MG in the training of physical education teachers, as well as the representations made to the area in that period. The archive of the memory center of physical education, sport and leisure (Cemef), based in the school of physical education, physiotherapy and occupational therapy (EEFFTO) in the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), has held a prominent role in the investigative work of the sources, by the amount of documents under his guard. The documentary was set to varied sources such as atas, dossiers, notices, resumes, letters, photographs, manuscript evidence, lesson plans, programs. Imported meet the performance of EEF-MG as the main formative institution of the area, as well as the teachers components of examinadoras stalls and teachers candidates. Were also of interest the contents present throughout the selection process. What if managed to understand, through the analysis of the sources, was the construction of a Physical education teacher profile ideal for high school in Minas Gerais, in the period covered by this study. The EEF-MG was present since the higher education of teachers, through its continuing education and culminating in his selection to performance in public education, for the high school. Sought to understand how and what representations of physical education were established at the time when the tender was in effect. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the understanding of the field of physical education in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in the second half of the 20th century.
