Resumo: This study treats about a specific educational institution, the Collegio Baptista Americano Mineiro during the first management as kindergarten, grade and high school - period comprising the years 1920-1927. The Collegio is inserted in a context in which the characteristics and practices of American Protestant Institutions are commonly associated with modernity and modernization, both the methods and teaching techniques, as the behaviors practiced and learned by students. As denominational organization, the Collegio contributed to spreading the baptist message in Minas Gerais state. The message was related to religious and social aspects, understood from a religious perspective. In this study, I research on the role played by the Collegio within the Baptist denomination, the strategies to increase the number of teachers and students trained in the institution, and school practices aimed at achieving the ideal of education and instruction wished by Baptist leaders in Minas Gerais state.
