Resumo: The main goal of this research had the purpose of investigating the intervention of Federal Government , through the Department of Physical Education and Sports (DED) of the Ministry of Education and Culture, and these two sectors, from 1969 up to 1974 while the country was under military dictatorship. In 1971, DED established the first Plan of Physical Education and Sports (PED) which comprised a program of cultural diffusion exchange (PIDIC).One of its actions was the National campaign of Sports Understanding (CNED), whose objective was to create and develop Sporting consciousness in the country, promoting sports as healthy and disciplinary practice anchored by the principles of order and progress. To CNED a great deal of stationary was produced and distributed such as: Technical and didactic brochures, folders, Podium newspaper, Dedinho comics, posters, among others, directed to diverse audiences like Physical Education teachers, children, housewives and the working class, generating multiple representations of sports such as sport as health, sport is education, sport is progress, sport is life. The means of communication (TV, radio, movies) were mobilized to spread and legitimate such representations. This research focused on the analysis of Dedinho comics for it was destined to children with free distribution in nationwide schools from 1971 to 1978 under the supervision of Physical Education teachers. This comic magazine was taken as our object of investigation due to its peculiar characteristics which indicate an intention of reaching the infantile audience. As a consequence of this distribution the magazine could bring out in the school life a representation of idealistic sports practice presented in the official system, making an attempt to reinforce and validate pedagogical practices. Analyzing its format, content, distribution, covers, among other important items. We can assure that the authors elected Dedinho comics as one of the main outcome of CNED spreading contents, didactic, procedures and values desired for sport and Physical Education. Within the researched period, the intervention of DED/MEC with its Plan of Physical Education and Sports, potentialized two articulated movements: the insertion of sport in the society besides making it part of the educational system that ends up in transforming Physical Education into sports practice.
