Resumo: | This study analyses library staffs' attitudes toward library automation at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Biblioteca Central, Biblioteca da Faculdade de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Biblioteca da Faculdade de Medicina e Escola de Enfermagem) and at libraries of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Staffs' attitudes are examined according to their opinion about job improvement, participation in the decision-making process, weakening of personal relationships, precision, easy and time spent at task performace, increase of wages and promotions. Four hypotheses were proposed to establish the relations between: 1) age of the persons and their attitudes toward library automation; 2) persons working with computers and their attitudes toward library automation, while considering its influence on task performance; 3) librarians who took undergraduate courses on library automation and their attitude toward automation; and 4) persons who never worked with computers and their attidute toward library automation. The results revealled that the library staffs demonstrate an affirmative attitude toward automation. This attitude is not influenced by age, experience with automation or by having taken undergraduated library automation courses. |
