Resumo: | This study deals with assessment of wood by non-destructive methods. Local testing methods (penetration resistance and puncture resistance) and global testing methods (wave propagation) were used. For validation of the non-destructive methods, destructive testing of apparent density, compression, shear strength and Janka hardness were performed in the three directions of the test specimens, longitudinal, tangential and radial. All the destructive tests were corrected for a moisture content of 12%. Seven types of wood were adopted for the correlations: angelim pedra (Hymenolobium petraeum), angelim vermelho (Dinizia excelsa), Brazil nut tree (Bertholletia excelsa), grapia (Apuleia leiocarpa), muiracatiara (Astronium lecointei), piquia (Caryocar villosum) and roxinho (Peltogyne discolor) in the density range of 650 to 1150 kg.m-³. For estimate of apparent density, Janka hardness and shear strength, the most recommended non-destructive method was the puncture resistance test. As for shear strength in the direction parallel to the grain, the method that showed best statistical approximation was that of penetration in the wood. Finally, for the elasticity modulus, longitudinal ultrasound wave testing by means of the acoustic emission device was most efficient. |
