Resumo: This study analyzed the performance of dentists who make up Belo Horizontes primary health care, in the care of pregnant women users. All dentists working in the primary health care were invited to participate. A semi-structured questionnaire was the method applied for data collection. The questionnaire addressed aspects related to characterization of research subjects, access and adherence of pregnant women to dental treatment, professional experience with individual dental care to pregnant women and participation in group activities. Data collection was conducted from May to October/2017. The data were entered in the Epi Data software version 4.0.2.101 in double typing, and then the frequency analysis was performed in the SPSS Statistics version 17.0. The open-ended questions had their answers analyzed in the software Atlas Ti version 7.5.18 software, using the content analysis method through categorial analysis. The compliance analysis was done on the dimensions of access, adherence, group activity and individual dental care. The dimensions were considered according to the literature and the variables analyzed corresponded to questions from the questionnaire. Two hundred and sixty dentists (76% response rate) participated in the study. Dentists from all nine districts were included. Strategies to ease the scheduling of pregnant women to dental treatment occur in 93.9% of the oral health teams, the main one being the scheduling and/or referral coming from the family health team. Regarding the analysis of compliance, the access dimension obtained 88.8% of compliance as a municipal result and the adhesion dimension, 95.8%, probably reflecting the organization of primary care. The group activity dimension had a 33.5% compliance in the municipal consolidation, being related to the low (37.3%) participation of dentists in these actions. Request for radiography obtained the lowest value of the whole study (36.2%), which influenced the final result of the individual dental care dimension. The present study demonstrated that the primary health care of the city is prepared to provide dental care to pregnant women, based on the organization of access to oral health services, adherence to treatment and individual dental care, in relation to the minimum procedures and the prescription medication. However, it is recommended to update the professionals through education, to clarify non-conformity aspects, and to stimulate the collective activities of health education. These actions may contribute to the improvement of the care and be a subsidy to the planning and organization of dental prenatal care in other Brazilian cities.
