Resumo: | This thesis seeks to explain the prosodic word status of Brazilian Portuguese (BP). It analyzes the prosodic and morphological evidence implicated in word formation process in that language, since we consider essential to analyze the structures of these processes for the characterization of prosodic word. We start from a few basic assumptions: a prosodic word gets only one primary stress; the relationship between morphological constituents and prosodic constituents is not isomorphic. Morphologically we analyze the notion of freely and factoring are criteria for the characterization of prosodic word in the PB. We also check on the morphological structures of prefixing, suffixing and composition, discussing the similarities between them and also the differences in order to identify which one has characteristics that identify them as prosodic words. Prosodically, we look as the primary stress may or may not be assigned to prefixes, suffixes and compound words and phonological rules that apply to them, in order to identify those morphological elements that should or should not be considered as prosodic words. |
