Resumo: Currently the corporate scenario demands from individuals skills to handle information in different situations. This study aimed to understand what information skills are employed in the work environment of the public sector and how such skills are required in the execution of tasks performed by professionals. The methodology used was case study, conducted in the Legislative Assembly of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The theoretical framework was Bruces (1997) model of conceptions of information literacy. Data collection was done through interviews, and content analysis technique was used to analyze them. Since then, in accordance with Bruces model, seven categories emerged, revealing conceptions of information literacy based on the experiences reported by respondents, namely, experiences related to: use of technology, information sources, information control, information process, knowledge construction, knowledge expansion and wisdom in the use of information. In addition an eighth category emerged from the data revealing the experience of teamwork. Results indicate that in the workplace information skills are influenced by organizational culture, by personal experiences acquired throughout life and by individual engagement.
