Resumo: | This study evaluates the phenomenon of allomorphy involved in plural noun inflection in Brazilian Portuguese. We demonstrate that this phenomenon requires a broad explanation that would manifest itself in the zone of interface between the various components of Grammar. For this purpose, we seek evidence that can characterize and explain allomorphy within a Grammatical Model. In order to undertake a discussion on plural noun inflection in Brazilian Portuguese, we will carry out a revision on this theme and evaluate some theoretical models capable of accommodating the issue of allomorphic variation in Brazilian Portuguese. Since this research has an essentially theoretical basis, the data to be used is based on introspection, allowing us at the same time to formulate ideas and subject them to discussion. This study contributes to the debate of allomorphy in the context of grammatical organization, promoting reflections on the plural formation in Brazilian Portuguese. Wesuggest that the current theoretical models under development try to explain the relevance of Syntax accounting for allomorphy and that the interface between Syntax and other components of Grammar, such as Phonology, Morphology, Semantics and the Lexicon, seems crucial to a broad characterization of allomorphy. |
