Resumo: Information society has created chances for individuals to interact with each other in new ways with practical and very effective results in several areas of human knowledge. From the combination of computing with telecommunication a new way of working emerged based in the electronic use of information which allowed workers to perform a great number of tasks remotely and in flexible schedule. Denominated telework, this new form of worldng apparently has been utilised most recently in Brazil by organizations expecting benehts for themselves as well as for their workers. However. these advantages would onlv resultjrom a proper utilization of that modality, what would imply, among other factors in a awareness of infomation to be teleworked in order for it to be defined and prepared correctly so optimizing telework or even making its implementation possible. Having that in mind we carried out an exploratory research on teleworlc in organizations whose businessis computing technology in Belo Horizonte MG which have some workers in activities of teleworking. The investigation revealed that institutional use oftelework in a systematic way does not occur as the media had pointed out. There are only isolated cases of teleworkers who took initiative in performing their tasks remotely, when allowed to do so. Telework formal planning by those institution 's administrators does not exist, need being the decisive factor for them to permit some individuals to perform remote work. Furthermore, information is not prepared adequately for remote use by teleworkers. Preparation has occurred verbally in the very premises of work through generic training in computing. Polemic aspects for the use oftelework in Brazil were rejerred to as legal issues as well as technological limitations. Although some institutions have shown intention to adopt telework we can conclude that this practice in Belo Horizonte is still incipient and improvised the process of training is deficient and the information to be teleworked inadequately prepared.
