Resumo: Milk production in Brazil is an important activity in the social and economic aspect for generating direct and indirect jobs. Milk production in the state of Mato Grosso is expanding and now the state is among the top 10 producers. The main actor in parasite control process and management of the herd, the producer, has in many studies being relegated to the background. The main purpose of this study was to capture and interpret the representations of producers on waste acaricide. The subjects were selected by typical sampling in settlements 14 de Agosto and Santo Antônio da Fartura, both in Campo Verde, MT. The analysis of material obtained through questionnaires and in-depth interviews was done using content analysis. Initially 21 producers responded to a questionnaire in order to map out a social and economic profile of these, and obtain data as structure and management of properties. Next they were conducted in-depth interviews with 11 of these producers. Interviewees were asked about their history of life as a milk producer, forms of learning and execution of ticks controls and concerns and destinations of the milk produced after the performance of the parasites control processes. The socioeconomic profile of the interviewees demonstrate a low professionalization and infrastructure of production systems, as well as indicate the milk as an important source of income for the settled families. The workforce is the most familiar, but the involvement of women in management and production is small. Most producers interviewed started their contact with the tick control in childhood. The techniques and modes of use of the products utilized by producers show in disagreement with what is recommended today. Information about spray modes, use of products and about the grace period is provided by the shop assistants of the shops, which are the first source of information for producers interviewed.
