Resumo: The absence of proper organization and the excessive accumulation of non-original documents within a collection only brings chaos and waste, whether of time or money. By making appropriate use of tools for organization and preservation of archival collections, an ideal solution can be reached, both for the holders of the archive and for the interested people. The purpose of studying the archives of the Conservation and Restoration Center of the Federal University of Minas Gerais is to highlight its importance to society and the relevance of being organized and preserved, so that problems such as delayed access to information may be more efficiently solved. The proposal is an effective institutional archive model that at the same time serves as research material for studies on conservation, but also tells a little of its history through the memory generated by the archives of this important national center of conservation and restoration. The Cecor archive holds a large collection of preservation, conservation and restoration works in various types and constitutions; how they were restored and why; what were the objectives of restoration; what are the methodologies used for these restorations. It is important to document all these processes so that in the future they will be consulted for other applications, whether in the same works or in others of similar constitution. Hence the importance of this collection being well organized and preserved, as well as the control of entry and exit of the documents from this archive. In this process doubts have arisen that we seek to solve, such as: who may have access to documentation and why some documents have restricted access. The methodology to be used is based on the application of archival tools, preservation and conservation of collections within this archive. It is concluded that it is very important to organize and preserve the collection of this archive, because it serves as a source for research for students, teachers, scholars and people interested in the works and their conservation, preservation and restoration, a little of its history and the history of its surroundings. Access to this information becomes more effective and faster if the collection is organized and preserved. This archive would also serve as a model of an organized collection made available to society, the researching.
