Resumo: | Introduction: Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions, being responsible for 1% of the global burden generated by diseases. Temporal Lobe Epilepsy(TLE) is the most common form of epilepsy in adults and it’s associated to high taxes of psychiatric comorbidities. Recently, the importance of inflammatory aspects in epileptogenesis has been discussed in the literature and mental diseases. Our study aimed at the clinical characterization of patients hospitalized for video EEG (VEEG) monitoring, in the investigation of refractory epilepsy and their correlation with the variations in serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers associated with the ictal process, in an attempt better understanding this process. Methods: Patients were selected by VEEG in the period of November 2014 to March 2016. The patients were underwent a detailed clinic interview, the application of scales to detect anxieties and depressions, like the scale of cognition valuation, and we collected blood samples in three moments of the hospitalization: in admission, one hour and 24 hours after the first seizure. Results: There was a total of 280 hospitalization on the period, being 53 patients recruited for the research, of these 29 completed the clinical valuation and 21 of them we collected the blood sample in three moments. Between the 29 participants, 13 patients (44,8%) had ETL, 12 (41,4%) Extratemporal Epilepsy and 4 patients (13,79%) didn´t show seizure with psychogenic epilepsy origin. It was observed in the group studied a punctuation for anxiety and depression on the HAD and IDTN-E scale, respectively. The major punctuation of the anxiety and depression to the lower age of the first epileptic seizure. On the controlled group showed high basal levels on the inflammatory biomarkers. The neurotrophic factor BDNF presented increase in the post-immediate period in relation to the control. Conclusion: The pro-inflammatory state was verified, showed by the raise of the biomarkers related to inflammation in patients with epilepsy in relation to the control group. |
