Resumo: Introduction: Palliative Care aims to promote human dignity, quality of life and adaptation to new conditions through prevention and relief of suffering. Can occur in various scenarios of healthcare services, including home. The humanistic principles that guide Palliative Care are in agreement with those that guide home care. However, the home care services of the brazilian public health system reveal a curative, biological and mechanistic practice, making the application of humanistic principles in palliative care difficult. The aim of this study was to analyze the actions of healthcare professionals acting in home care and in the health care of users elegible to palliative care, in the light of Jean Watson's reference. Methods: A singlecase study was developed, using a qualitative approach. Jean Watson's theory of human care was used as a theoretical framework. The setting was a municipality in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte - Minas Gerais. Three Multiprofessional Home Care teams and the Multiprofessional Home Care support Team were of the Home Care Service were included to collect data, including people from different teams, localities and municipal realities. Participant observations were made in 18 different cases, by means of home visits, and 13 healthcare professionals were sequentially interviewed. The data derived from observations and interviews were analyzed based on the conventional Content Analysis proposed by Hsieh and Shannon. The research respected the determinations of Resolution 466/2012 from the Brazilian National Health Council. Results: , two empirical categories were made: I - Palliative Care in home care: knowledge, definition and elegibility from the perspective of the healthcare professional, II - The articulation of healthcare technologies and the promotion of palliative care in HC; discussed in the light of Jean Watson's theory of human care. The application of palliative care in home care is fragile, not contemplating what legislation preconizes and its fundamental principles, being insufficient to meet the requirements of those who need it. This insufficiency lies in the fragility of professional education and qualification on the subject, in addition to the deficiency of public authorities and healthcare managers in offering conditions that ensure palliative care. Final considerations: There is a need for advancements in the creation and implementation of governament policies in Brazil for the insertion of palliative care in the healthcare service network through educational, managerial, organizational and assistential actions that contemplate and ensure human dignity in people with chronic health conditions, elegible for palliative care. The insertion of palliative care in home care can be facilitated through the use of Clinical Caritas Process elements postulated by Jean Watson in his theory of human care, since it supports that care actions should be directed towards the singularity of a person and the quality of life, allowing for a integral care and creativity of professionals.
