Resumo: This dissertation explores the possibility of rethinking the architects practice with the proposal of the teaching of building crafts. It presents the results of a research that experimented metalworking workshops as an architecture practice in the favelas and cultural occupations. Understanding labour in its self-mediation character as fundamental to the development of individual and collective autonomy, I sought to investigate the possibility of a practice that rescues the concrete involvement with the material production os space, reactivating labour as an activity of self-development of man through the pedagogy of the crafts. As a critical work, it points contemporary elements of alienation of labour in construction and the quotidian perception of space. Then, it argues for the pedagogy of crafts as a rationality of labour that enhances its free expression, in favor of a political shift in architectural technology, based on the relation between body, skills, learning and technique. Furthermost, I show that the experience with these workshop practices, although unable to transcend the alienation of labour, creates a productive environment that, in opposition to the hegemonic construction site, foster skills as discipline, critical thinking and concentration.
