Resumo: | In the information age, the increasing availability of communication resources and the rapid expansion of information technologies at the service of social action increase the necessity to understand the multiplicity of languages in contemporary texts besides seeking effective strategies to interact and gain access to information that we use. Thus, this thesis develops an analysis of magazines covers stories that deal with health, given the multimodal aspects of representation and interaction of features that make the meaning of the text as a whole. The aim of this study is to investigate the interrelations between written language and visual language in the construction of ideational and interactive meanings. The investigation of the potential significance of semiotic modes was based on the theoretical perspective of Systemic Functional Grammar (HALLIDAY; MATHIEESSEN, 2004) Grammar of Visual Design (KRESS; VAN LEEUWEN, 1996; 2006) and Multimodality (KRESS, 2010). The methodology of the work is based upon application of network systems related to representational and interactive meanings of verbal and visual components. The analysis of the lexicogrammatical verbal information was developed in accordance with the concept of tri-functional significance proposed by Halliday and Matthiessen (2004). Regarding the visual analysis, we considered the multimodal semiotic method proposed by Kress and Van Leeuwen (1996; 2006). The complex interpretation of metafuncional texts indicates how the visual and verbal features combine and represent the textual aesthetics of the body and health in post modernity through interaction that seeks to reveal closeness with the reader. |
