Resumo: Environmental contamination by waste is a problem mainly regarded to the economic development of the country. Thus, to achieve a satisfactory sustainable development is necessary the existence of alternatives to facilitate the exchange of waste between companies. One of the applications are the waste exchange systems, which are tools that promote the exchange of waste (by-products), facilitating the management of waste from businesses. This work seeks to assess the perception of the people who work whit waste exchange systems in the Federations of Industries in Brazil, showing data from the operation of these systems and explaining the vision of companies registered in the Minas Gerais Waste Exchange. For both situation, two questionnaires and a roadmap for interview were applied. Something that particularly influenced the research and also the discussion of the data obtained was the observation of the researcher during a year of operation of the waste exchange system of Minas Gerais. Data analysis of the interview was conducted by using the methodology of the analysis of content, sorting by subject, highlighting the points that would achieve the objectives of the research. The main results are related to the oppinion of the people who work with this system Who consider it as a tool to support the enterprises, this people have an optimistic view about the system, despite the difficulties encountered in the implementation and operation of the system. Additionally, the waste exchange systems do not collect any type of data, believes that this is a key issue that would provide the best performance of this system. Companies registered in waste exchange system of FIEMG are looking for solutions in waste to meet current legislation, 40% of companies participate of this system at least once a week. The contact between companies is mostly via email and telephone. The companies said about the need of a system that would facilitate this contact enterprise-enterprise. Despite the difficulties encountered to participate in the system, most companies that responded to the questionnaire were optimistic about the support that the system offers to the management of wastes
