Resumo: With urban growth and excessive soil sealing, one of the major problems we face today is related to water, that is, flooding in valley bottom areas and the pollution of the vast majority of urban streams. Water, which used to be seen as an essential element for cities, is now seen as a problem. Due to the increase in the occurrence of negative impacts and disasters, studies have begun to increase in recent decades that seek to expand knowledge on the subject and actions that seek to mitigate the impacts of urbanization on the hydrological cycle by adopting compensatory techniques for managing rainwater, control measures that seek to prevent or minimize the impacts of flooding in the city. Based on the study of the different solutions applied to urban drainage, analysis of the location and contact with the community through pedagogical practices carried out with primary and secondary schools, the research proposes to build actions aimed at implementing diffuse compensatory measures (MCD) on urban roads in the Cercadinho sub-basin. This sub-basin is part of the Arrudas river basin, in the western region of Belo Horizonte. This study, which combines research, extension and undergraduate studies, was structured around three central premises: the study of MCDs and the systematization of parameters that condition the application of solutions; pedagogical actions; and the definition of small watersheds (circumstances) as planning units. The results of the research are presented in the form of MCD designs applied to urban roads and hydrological simulations. The designs aim to present possibilities for implementing such techniques in the urban context and to contribute to urban environmental education actions developed by the Waters in the City Project. The hydrological simulations seek to measure and evaluate the reduction of impacts in the study area. The definition of small watersheds as a planning unit aims to structure the implementation of measures in a distributed way in the watersheds, starting from the headwaters, from upstream to downstream.
