Resumo: This thesis presents results of the research Institutional and intellectual affiliation of quota students of high demand and social selectivity courses of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, held with students from the popular classes who entered courses of high demand and social selectivity, such as Law, Civil Engineering and Medicine, Federal University of Santa Catarina, via Affirmative Action Policy. The objective of this study was to analyze the experiences of the university students in order to understand the processes of institutional and intellectual affiliation (COULON, 2008). The present study is inspired by a movement of reorientation of sociological studies, more specifically the theoretical methodological model of sociology at the individual scale developed by Lahire (1997, 2002, 2004), which proposes as a study the singular cases of social and the reconstitution of frameworks that are sensitive to social inequalities. In an attempt to establish a dialogue between the theory of analysis of singularities proposed by Lahire (1997; 2004) and the processes of affiliation (COULON, 2005; 2008) in higher education, the conditions of stay of quota students were analyzed. In order to discuss new and old impasses and contradictions of Brazilian higher education, especially of the researched university, three fronts of research were worked out: the economic condition of the social actors belonging to the group analyzed to remain in the university; social integration during the academic trajectory; academic performance - crucial elements to the investigation of institutional and intellectual affiliation processes. It is evident that the socio-educational inequalities among students are not eliminated by the entry of young people from the popular classes in the university, therefore, in this way, a faithful approach was sought to the condition of quota student experienced by young people, their formative paths, the inheritance of improbable school success due to belonging to the popular means reverts in prolongation of schooling in courses of high demand and social selectivity. It is pointed out the need to intensify university projects and actions in the three fronts analyzed in order to guarantee more pleasant university experiences, constituted by smaller difficulties and mishaps, offering objective / material elements, as well as psycho-emotional ones, that assure the termination of the courses attended.
