Resumo: | High level sports are marked by a continuous quest for improvement, always putting the athlete to the test, taking him to his limits to conquer his objectives. Although, it is important to take in consideration the individuality of each athlete, and understand that there is not only one way to work and orient this athlete to his highest performance. Understanding the importance of knowing the personality characteristics most predominant in athletes, once this description helps a optimized approach to the athletes, by the sport psychologist and staff, the present research had the objective to investigate the personality traits of high level Brazilian judokas that belong to the base categories. The sample was formed by high level Brazilian judokas that belong to the base categories, from seven weight classes, men and women. To the collection of data, the Questionário Sócio demográfico (sample profile) and the Bateria Fatorial de Personalidade (to analyze personality traits) were used. As results of the research, significant differences were found on the Openness factor, and the Comunicação, Altivez and Liberalismo facets, when compared the medians for the women of the sample and the population. There were also significant differences for the Conscientiousness and Openness factors, and the Vulnerabilidade, Comunicação, Pró-Sociabilidade, Competência, Empenho/Comprometimento, Abertura a Ideias, Liberalismo and Busca por Novidades facets when compared the medians for the men of the sample and the population. It is possible to appoint that values and the culture present in Judo, of Japanese origins, may influence on the development of athletes in the modality, requiring less adaptability to those who share the same values as the ones cultured in Judo |
