Resumo: | Nowadays there is a concern regarding the waste from Healthcare Facilities, mainly related to solid waste. Nevertheless, the liquid portion of it has not been thoroughly studied so far. The disposing of the Healthcare Facilities waste water into the municipal sewage without any kindof treatment is a common practice. Currently there is a growing interest in our society regarding environmental issues, which demands control actions to be adopted by the authorities. Therefore a regulation from the National Healthcare Agency (ANVISA) has been established. It requests to the Healthcare Facilities to have a previous waste water treatment ifthe municipals sewage does not have it. This work aims to compare the chemical, microbiological and physical characteristics of the two kind of waste water, through previously defined parameters analysis. Emphases have been done to the parameters that are traditionally used in waste water studies. Three points have been sampled, being two from hospitals sewage and one from home sewage in Montes Claros, the latter without any Healthcare Facilities sewage. The results have shown that, regarding analyzed parameters (chemical, microbiological and physical), there is no substantial difference between the two kinds of sewage. The results statistics analyses have shown that the significant differences between the two kinds of sewage, when found, show a larger concentration in home sewage. nother point to be considered is the great dilution that takes place when the Healthcare Facilities waste water is poured in the municipal sewage and mixed with it. At first, considering the analyzed parameters, there is no technical and/or scientific reason to treat the Healthcare Facilities waste water before sending it to the municipal sewage system. Regarding pathogenic microorganisms, not treating the Healthcare Facilities waste water is not conclusive because laboratory analysis was not contemplated in this research. Finally, it isrecommended, according to the research results, that: a) Due to the rareness of works related to the subject, because of the peculiarity of this waste water, it is necessary to improve the knowledge of such a matter; b) Due to the legislations requirement for treatment of the wastewater the authorities must define which parameters must comply in order to forward it to the municipal sewage system; and c) the implementation of studies to identify the influence of pathogenic microorganisms concentration present in the hospitals sewage, after having beenpoured into the municipal sewage system aiming to the knowledge of its limits and to address the best way of treatment and control. |
