Resumo: This work is the result of an investigative study on the use of the cartoon genre in the classroom, and aims to find alternatives for more effective work with this genre, with a view, above all, their social functioning. For the study were considered especially theoretical assumptions about the kinds of genres, literacy, inference notions, reading and retextualization. To collect data teaching-learning situations were considered with the charge gender and used the activities of a group of 35 students of the 9th grade of elementary school to a public school in the state of Minas Gerais. The aim was to propose, implement and analyze a didactic project, through workshops that seek to develop strategies for reading charges. In these workshops, issues were debated as discrimination and bullying from charges circulating in society, in order to build together with the students a set of actions that can help to minimize this problem in school. At the end of the workshops, an exhibition was set up with the studied cartoons and texts produced by students from the discussions of the themes present in the genre study, murals and posters, plus a folder of awareness about bullying. As a result of this research, it was observed that the work in the classroom with the charge allows the student to understand how to organize the language modes in the genre in question and allows the reflection of certain everyday situation, which enables the promotion of behavioral strategies at school.
